You do not know how to create a Google Business Profile listing ?
Without it, your business remains invisible in Google search results and on Google Maps.
👉 In this tutorial, we show you how to create a Google account and your business listing in less than 5 minutes.
Simple, free, and essential to be visible locally !
If you already have a Google account (an @gmail.com address), log in directly here :
👉 https://business.google.com/fr/business-profile/ and move on to the next step.
Otherwise, follow these steps to create your professional account :
1. Go to business.google.com/fr/business-profile
2. Click on “Manage”
3. Select “Create an account”
4. Choose “For work or my business”
Two options will be offered to you :
1. Create a free Gmail address.
2. Use an existing email address (it will be verified by email).
Example : If your business is called Paloha in Lyon, you can create an address like paloha.lyon@gmail.com.
Then, fill in the requested personal information :
You will receive a validation code by SMS or email to confirm the creation of your account.
🎉 Congratulations, your account is now active ! You can now log in and move on to creating your Google Business Profile listing.
Now let’s get to the most important part : how to create your Google business listing step by step.
Once logged into your account, you will access the business creation process.
Google will ask you to fill in several required details. Do not worry, you can modify your answers later if needed.
Enter the exact business name of your company, without adding the city or marketing expressions.
Example to avoid : Beau Parquet – Lyon – Wood flooring installation.
⚠️ This type of format is no longer allowed by Google and may lead to penalties or a suspended account.
This business name will then be linked to your listing in Google search results.
A drop-down list will allow you to choose the type of business. Select the one that best matches the nature of your activity.
You can then add secondary categories if needed.
👉 Note : only businesses that have direct contact with their customers are eligible for a Google Business Profile.
Fully online businesses without any physical point of contact are not eligible.
If you welcome customers : enter your full address (street address, postal code, city).
If you travel to your customers : enter only the geographic area you serve.
⚠️ Using a virtual address or a P.O. box can cause issues. Google may suspend your business listing if the geolocation is not consistent.
During the creation process, Google may suggest listings similar to yours with a message like this, for example :
💡 This helps avoid duplicate listings, which can harm your local SEO.
Next, enter a valid phone number (mobile or business landline).
⚠️ The number must not be premium-rate.
You can also enter your website URL if you have one (optional).
This step is essential so that users can call you, visit your website, or send an email directly from Google Maps.
👉 Before finalizing the creation, check the box to accept Google’s terms of service.
You can review their privacy policy and information about personal data protection.
Then click “Continue”.
🎉 Congratulations ! Your listing is now created and saved. There is only one step left before it becomes visible on Google : verification.
Creating the listing is not enough : as long as it is not verified, it remains invisible on Google.
Google vous propose 3 méthodes de validation, selon votre situation :
An automated call gives you a 6-digit code to enter in your dashboard.
The fastest and most reliable method, ideal for simple user accounts.
Google asks you to film :
The video must be uploaded through your Google account. You will receive a response within 24 to 48 hours.
Google sends you a letter containing a code.
You will receive it in your physical mailbox within 5 to 7 business days.
Once received, return to your dashboard and enter the access code to validate your listing.
🎉 Congratulations ! Once verification is completed, your listing becomes visible on Google Maps and in search results.
Creating and verifying your Google Business Profile is a great start.
But if you stop there, you risk remaining invisible in Google search results.
To rank well and gain more visibility on Google Maps, here are the priority actions to take in your dashboard :
The more information you provide (opening hours, services, photos, website URL, description, etc.), the better.
👉 Google values complete profiles and a high completion score.
You can update this personal data at any time through your user account.
It is not only the total number of reviews that matters, but especially their freshness.
Recent reviews strongly influence the algorithm.
👉 Ask customers for feedback after each visit or order.
This increases clicks to your listing, which also boosts your search ranking.
Businesses with a high rating are ranked better, especially if the average remains stable over the last 30 days.
You can monitor this in the “My account” tab or through Google notifications.
Whether positive or negative, each response shows that you are an active manager.
The response rate is an important factor in local ranking, and it also builds user trust.
Tip : enable notifications in your Google account to be alerted for every new review and respond quickly from your dashboard.
